ARTICLE PREPARATION GUIDELINES

1. Title

Every manuscript must include both Turkish and English titles, regardless of the language of the manuscript. The title should reflect the content briefly, clearly, and accurately; it should be written in uppercase and bold, should not exceed twenty words, and should use 14-point type.

2. Author Name(s) and Address(es) — 10 point

Author names should be centered beneath the title, with surnames written entirely in uppercase. Each author’s academic title, institutional affiliation, and email address must be provided.

3. Abstract and Keywords

The Turkish abstract must accurately reflect the purpose, scope, and findings of the study. It must be between 150 and 300 words. Three to five Turkish keywords should be placed one line below the abstract. English versions of the title, abstract, and keywords must also be provided. For manuscripts written in another language, the title, abstract, and keywords must be supplied in Turkish, English, and the language of the manuscript. Authors should ensure that abstracts in foreign languages are free of language errors. Use 10-point type.

4. Main Text

Manuscripts should preferably be prepared in Microsoft Word and should not exceed twenty pages. Use A4 page size with margins of 3 cm on all sides. Set line spacing to 14 pt, justify the text, set paragraph spacing before and after to 14 pt, and place page numbers at the bottom right. Use Times New Roman. The first line of each paragraph should be indented 1.25 cm and line spacing should be single. Punctuation marks must be attached to the preceding word and followed by one space. Use 12-point type.

The manuscript must comply with grammar and spelling rules. The latest edition of the Turkish Language Association Spelling Guide should be followed for Turkish punctuation, spelling, and abbreviations. The writing should be clear and concise, and information unrelated to the purpose and scope of the study should be omitted. Valid scientific methods must be followed, and the subject, purpose, scope, rationale, and related information should be presented adequately and in a coherent order.

A manuscript should contain, in sequence, an abstract, the sections of the main text, references, and appendices where applicable. Whether headings such as Introduction and Conclusion are used depends on the type and subject of the study; however, every manuscript must include a concluding paragraph. The conclusion must correspond to the purpose and scope of the research and present the main findings concisely. Matters not discussed in the main text must not be introduced in the conclusion. Main, secondary, and tertiary headings may be used to maintain a clear structure.

Main headings: Write entirely in uppercase and bold, using 14-point type.

Second-level headings: Write in bold, capitalize the first letter of each word, and begin the following text on a new line. Use 12-point type.

Third-level headings: Write in bold, capitalize only the first letter of the first word, and begin the following text on a new line. Use 10-point type.

Figures, tables, and photographs: These items must not extend beyond the text area and may be placed on separate pages when necessary. Figures and tables must be numbered and titled in both Turkish and English as appropriate. Figure numbers and captions must appear below figures, while table numbers and titles must appear above tables; only the initial letters should be capitalized. Items should be prepared with sufficient clarity and line weight to reproduce well when reduced or printed. Tables should be created using the table function in Microsoft Word; Excel tables may be used only when necessary. Explanatory notes and abbreviations should be placed immediately below the relevant figure or table. The total length of figures, tables, and images should preferably not exceed ten pages. They must be inserted in their intended locations in the manuscript and be of publishable quality. Use 10-point type.

CITATIONS AND REFERENCES

In-text citations: Immediately after the cited material, provide the author’s surname, year of publication, and page number in parentheses. Example: (Alsu, 2017: 28).

When citing more than one source, list the works in the same set of parentheses and separate them with semicolons. Arrange them from the earliest to the most recent date. Example: (Emek, 2016: 28; Alsu, 2017: 12).

For a source with two authors, separate the surnames with a hyphen. For a source with more than two authors, use “et al.” after the first author’s surname. Examples: (Alsu-Emek, 2003: 15); (Alsu et al., 2017: 25).

Two works by the same author published in the same year must be distinguished by adding a letter to the year. Examples: (İlhan, 2003a: 25); (İlhan, 2003b: 58).

Works published in the same year by authors with the same surname must be distinguished by adding the initial of each author’s given name. Examples: (Demir, A., 2003: 46); (Demir, H., 2003: 27).

When citing a work that could not be consulted directly, identify both the original source and the work from which it was cited. Example: (Köprülü, 1911: 75, as cited in Çelik, 1998: 25).

When citing a manuscript, place the abbreviation [ms.] after the name of the author or translator, provide the folio number, and include the complete bibliographic information in the reference list. Example: (Ahmedî, [ms.] 1410: 7b).

When citing archival documents, use an abbreviation in the text and provide the full form in the reference list. Example: (BCA, Mühimme 15: 25).

Footnotes: Use footnotes only for essential explanations and insert them using the automatic footnote function. Citations in footnotes must also follow the author–year–page format. Example: (Alsu, 2017: 15).

Quotations: Direct quotations must appear within quotation marks and be followed by a parenthetical citation. Quotations shorter than five lines should be italicized within the paragraph. Quotations of five lines or more should be presented as an italicized block indented 1 cm from both the left and right margins. Paraphrases require a parenthetical citation at the end.

Reference list: Include every source cited in the manuscript. Do not include works that are relevant to the subject but are not cited in the text. List references alphabetically by author surname at the end of the manuscript. For authors who lived before the introduction of surname laws, alphabetize by given name. Titles of works should be italicized.
